Interfaith Celebration of the 69th PRC National Day in Hong Kong

On Sept. 19, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was invited by the religious sector in Hong Kong to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The annual celebration was prepared by the six major religions of Hong Kong - Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. This year, the Chief Executive of the Special Administrative Region Mrs. Carri Lam and the Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Lau Kong-wah JP were also present. In addition to celebrating the National Day, the main purpose of the event is to promote open communication between various faiths in Hong Kong to achieve religious harmony. By so doing, it will help the post-Handover Hong Kong to become more stable and prosperous.

Elder David P. Homer of the Asia Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said, "The Church is honored to be invited to attend the reception. It is our hope that while building friendship, we can have the opportunity to cooperate with other religious groups to serve the society in Hong Kong."
