The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Celebrates 65 Years in Hong Kong

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints commemorated the 65th anniversary of its establishment in Hong Kong Saturday.

Over a thousand members and friends joined in this commemoration at the Church building in Wan Chai to honour the prayer given by Elder Matthew Cowley, an apostle of the Lord, at Victoria Peak 14 July 1949.

This is a significant event to celebrate the Church’s milestone of its remarkable growth in the Asia region.

“We grew from a group of six at the peak in 1949 to nearly 180,000 members meeting in over 400 congregations in 18 countries in this Asia region today,” said Siu Hong Pon, a local representative of the Church. “From Taiwan to Pakistan, from Mongolia to Indonesia…looking back, the Church has come a long way.”

Members of the Church will continue to work hard to spread the gospel that brings blessings to their fellowmen.

“We follow Jesus Christ and encourage others to do the same,” Pon said. “His gospel gives us peace and happiness by teaching us to be better parents, children and citizens for society. We show our love to others through service.”
